Persimmon Says

By: Jen Shoop

You may have noticed that I’m kinda obsessed with J. Crew.  Their clothes are on-trend without being too fashion-forward; affordable {and everything eventually goes on sale if you wait long enough}; and, best of all, versatile.  I have many friends who own the same pieces but rock them in totally different ways.  And — their seasonal color palettes are to die.  I’m loving the “neon persimmon” hue of their genius colored skinnies ($108, J. Crew — although I’d probably opt for this comparable J. Brand style in coral), which I’d wear with a chambray button-down ($26, Old Navy — though my ideal style would be this $225 Vince variation) and a big coral necklace ($140, Loren Hope):

I’d finish with pewter bow-toe flats (~$235, Pretty Ballerinas) and this dove gray slouchy bag ($395, Botkier):

This lovely patterned scarf is the perfect accent piece (We Are Owls, $260, Les Nouvelles):

For a dressier occasion, how about a persimmon maxi skirt (obsessed with this new length — Halston Heritage, $425, Zappos) with a gray blouse (Marc Jacobs, $227, TheOutnet) and some gray drop earrings ($43, David Aubrey):

I’d finish with a clean white clutch ($257, Farfetch) and some unfussy gladiators (man oh man am I dreaming of warmer weather at the moment…Zanotti, $595, Forward Forward):

Alternately, check out this stunning formal-wear dress (Sara Berman, $290, TheOutnet) with some glitzy studs ($95, Max & Chloe):

Finish with glitzy pumps (Miu Miu, $730, Net-A-Porter) and a roll clutch (on super sale for $29, Nine West):

Hot.  Or, how about this simple persimmon shift (Tibi, $396, Bergdorf’s) with a colorful statement necklace ($66, David Aubrey):

I’d wear it with some python tootsies, and this Kate Spade style is my jam ($325, Endless) — as well as a roomy clutch in persimmon ($46, American Apparel):

Also loving this simple white shirt-dress ( on sale for $137, Conifer) with a longer-length necklace (on sale for $21, WeLikeFashion):

Wear with anything in the “neon coral” color from the current Proenza Schouler collection.  This pouchlette is lovely ($345, Proenza Schouler):

And a pair of bow-toe gray flats ($50, Modcloth):

Finally, why not juge up your workout gear with a cute new hoodie ($80, Nike), some gray leggings (“anthracite,” to be exact — $54, Nike)

And some new kicks ($85, Finish Line).  Yah, yah, yah, I know I’m a Nike snob — it’s the only workout gear that lasts…and lasts…and lasts.  The rest ends up tattered and raggedy looking.  And the colors are to die.

Cute with this Anya tote, eh ($295, Net-A-Porter)?  Love her cheeky little canvas totes.  I wear mine on the reg.

And finally!  DRUMROLL: another giveaway to perk up your Monday morning!  {They can be so rough.}  Today, the uber-kind lady behind Concierge Couture {Danielle! — and if you ever need styling counsel, please go to her!} and her sister, Beth Beattie, are offering one lucky reader a pair of these adorable arrow necklaces, which they designed together with their brother!  Just in time for Valentine’s Day!  All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me who you’d give your spare arrow to!  A winner will be announced this Thursday, so enter quickly!

  1. To my friend Meghan, who has been there with me and for me through various family illnesses and personal drama. Bust most importantly, because of the great laughs we always share over sparkly wine!

  2. Love the design!! I would share the other half with my best friend of 17 years! She also happened to introduce me to my husband of 8 years…my very own cupid! I was born with a twin brother as my sibling but fate granted me the best sister I could ever hope for…

  3. Similar to other readers, I would give the other one to my sister who lives 1,300+ miles away. Despite the distance, we have our little catch up sessions over coffee or wine via videochat. Seeing her gorgeous face makes me feel a bit closer to home. To see her don this little lovely then would make it even more special.

  4. Love this!!! I would give the other necklace to my best friend, who has lived across the country from me for the past 6 years. I have known her for 17 years, she introduced me to her brother (who I married 8 years ago) and we talk every day. I was born with a twin brother but luck gave me a sister. She is my everything!

  5. First off, LOVE your blog. Obsessed. Secondly, the necklace is beautiful and I would love to give one to my best friend, my sister. We have been through a lot in the past year and an a half and it would symbolize that things will only point up in our lives:)

  6. I would share it with my daughter. She is a hardworking student and great soccer player and such a good role model for her younger twin bros!

  7. I think i’d have to give the other necklace to my best friend.. my mom. Not only is she my style icon but it would inspire her not to give up on love!!

  8. Hahaha — twinsies! I hope that was a reference to the “S*** girls say” video…? But in all seriousness: I’m right on board with you. My mom is my best friend, so it’d have to go that way.

  9. love the necklaces! i’d give the spare to my maid of honor to thank her for all her help!
thanks for the post! you have such great ideas!

  10. Love this color and love the necklaces! As for the necklace, my initial response would be to my husband, but my best friend Liz would probably get more use out of it!
