My Darling Clementine

By: Jen Shoop

Pantone recently announced that the color of 2012 is “Tangerine Tango.”  I’m thrilled.  Punchy, juicy orange hues have been all over the place —

— including towards the top of my ever-expanding list of coveted items, which, as my loyal magpies know, revolves around the Celine Boston bag.  What I wouldn’t give for it in this lovely, luxe-looking orange shade.

On the more realistic side of my covet list, you’ll find this roomy frolic of a bag ($395, DVF):

What an exclamation point, especially on a lather-rinse-repeat work outfit like the one below, which fairly accurately captures my “uniform” for uninspired mid-week mornings: Equipment blouse ($83, The Outnet), a chain necklace — love this KJL style with the lion head! ($61, Thomas Laine),  J. Brand skinnies (our office is relatively informal when we don’t have guests and it’s as cold as it’s been…), and some spiffy flats (on sale for $236, Loeffler Randall):

Some orange statement earrings (Oscar de la Renta, $225, Net-A-Porter) spruce up the entire look and bring it all together:

The above would look equally perfect with a collarless denim top (my dream style is by Vince, and is available here for $225, but this Built By Wendy variation is euqally cool — $62, Built By Wendy), a statement necklace ($450, Wendy Mink), and some tangerine skinnies (Current/Elliott, on sale for $79, Barney’s):

I’d finish with some neutral flats ($225, Kate Spade) and this colorblocked leather bag ($69, DSW):

Or, how about a striped tee in a sunny clementine orange stripe ($42, J. Crew) paired with this awesome statement piece from Lanvin ($1,065, Brown’s), skinnies, and some studded flats ($56, TopShop):

I’d add a colorblocked tote featuring — duh — tangerine (DVF, $685, Net-A-Porter):

I love the structure and bold effect of this colorblocked Gucci top ($625, Net-A-Porter), which I’d enhance with a orange-and-strawberry link necklace (Andrew Hamilton Crawford, $198, Max&Chloe), skinnies, and those Valentino rockstud flats ($625, MyTheresa):

I’d throw this cozy plaid wool cape over the entire look ($265, Coggles) and one of these super-slick SANG A bags ($1,495, Sang A):

For something on the more formal side, how gorgeous is this jewel-necked Phillip Lim number ($539, Boutique1)?  I think it’d be fun with these feather-and-jewel earrings (Lizzie Fortunato, $220, Kirna Zabete):

I’d add only some eye-catching heels (Jimmy Choo, $1,150, Net-A-Porter)  and this funky feathered clutch ($60, Shop Latitude):

Want just a pop?  Check out these classic Ferragamo flats ($419, MyTheresa), or these tasseled earrings (bargain! — $34, Farfetch), or the classic H Clic bracelet ($570, Hermes):

For home, I’m loving these monogrammed splatter placemats ($45 each, Luxury Monograms) with some orange napkins ($28 for 4, C. Wonder):

Love!  For the couches, how about some punchy pillows?  Consider this tangerine lotus pattern ($55 and up, depending on size, Caitlin Wilson) mixed in with a contrast-print in an aqua hue (also $55 and up depending on size, Caitlin Wilson):

Would look darling atop this amazing wingback chair ($1,898, Anthropologie):

Incidentally, the perfect perch for journaling (or, in my case, chronic list-making) in a chic little journal ($80, Smythson) with classic Rhoda pencils ($1.95 a pop, Goulet Pen Company):

A Hermes blanket in their hallmark orange hue would be a dream ($1,225, Hermes), but I’m not sure whether a $1,225 blanket could be a reality in my life.  I think I’d always prefer a new handbag…

Oh, and a cup of coffee.  Duh.  In one of these fetching little mugs ($10 apiece, West Elm):

Anyone else ready to do the tangerine tango?!
