Weekend Vibes, Edition No. 279: On Believing.

By: Jen Shoop

My Latest Snag: Beach Gear.

We picked up a bunch of pieces for our beach trip this week, including top-rated Tommy Bahama beach chairs, this small hard-sided cooler in the fog gray color (contemplating getting a decal made with our last name on it to put on the front), and several beach toys, including these scoops, these sand castle molds, this toy set, and a Frisbee. I also picked up some extra sun protection for my fair haired boy in the form of rash guards from Target and Minnow.

I am kind of wishing we had the space to bring our wagon in our car! (If you don’t have one, this one is so chic!)

Weekend Musings: Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus.

Earlier this week, I was reminded of an editorial by Frances Church, who, in 1897, responded to an eight-year-old’s letter asking whether there was a Santa Claus by writing:

“Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.”

The essay is a lovely reminder of the leaps of faith life asks of us. It is one of my father’s favorite little writings. He read it to us as children and the spirit of the letter moves me now.

Shopping Break.

+Parisienne chic. Pair with strappy black sandals and a baguette.

+Oo this caftan!

+Into the fit and color of these mom jean shorts…pair with a fitted tank and a striped sweater around the shoulders.

+Obsessed with this new pattern of bathroom accessories from Kassatex! I love this brand for bathroom accessories; we have this set in our powder room.

+Currently using and loving this loose powder. It’s great if you prefer loose setting powder to packed — if you like packed, I’m also a huge fan of Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powder.

+Gorgeous pale pink dress.

+J. Crew’s sale is legit — stock up on kids’ stuff in particular! Micro’s striped shorts are currently $13, as are these versatile athletic shorts — and both go down to $9/pair if you buy more than three items!

+I cannot believe this dress is under $100! Looks like something from Ephemera or Ciao Lucia. If you like that lavender color, you might also dig this sweet Ulla-inspired style.

+Adore these etched coupes.

+If you missed out on my TB fisherman sandals, these are similar!

+Love the color of this rash guard.

+This seersucker maxi dress is gorgeous!

+These espadrilles are so fun.

+Sweet bow shouldered top.
