The Cream of the Crop.

By: Jen Shoop

I’ve been v. on the fence about this, but — what do we think about the cropped wide leg denim we’ve been seeing all over for the past season or two?  I was reminded of the trend when rounding up some favorite fall picks, including these Loeffler Randall slides, shown in the second snap below styled with a pair of cropped jeans.

My top pick for the trend would be these Simon Millers ($285), which seem to have just the right amount of slouch in just the right mid wash for my taste.  To balance something somewhat…mom/nerd-ish like this, I’ll reach for a very on-trend statement shirt, like this Petersyn blouse ($260, on sale in other colors! — but get the look for less with this), and my Hermes Oran sandals ($680 — get the look for less with these).

I’d finish with my Lindroth mini basket bag ($125):

Other options?  These from Madewell or these by Mother (on sale! — also, I believe Leandra Medine swears by this denim label, and she’s shown in the snap second to the bottom above!)

P.S.  More microtrends here.  I’m still into the bandana situation.

  1. I am on board with this look and have been since 2015! Haha. That’s when I bought my first pair of Citizens of Humanity Melanie jeans in ivory denim … I don’t love the let-out-hem look as much, but in ivory it’s the same tone, so I avoided the two-tone look I dislike.

I also have a pair of vintage 501s that I cut into what now closely resembles that Simon Miller pair. If I didn’t already own them, I’d love to try the Simon Millers, because I see that they are high-rise and I’ve only come across super low-rise options from Simon Miller before. They’d be so chic with that Petersyn top in the red stripe!

    1. I am DYING to see your wardrobe, MK! It sounds like you have some maj cult classics in there. This all sounds tres tres chic.

    2. Haha! That’s a high compliment coming from you. I try (really try) not to get too deep into trendy pieces, but sometimes I just can’t help myself! If you’re ever in Boston, hit me up and we can meet up & talk clothes!

  2. i’m not on board with the wide leg jeans, but i love the cropped flares like in your last image with the white outfit and the black jacket. I took the plunge and bought a pair of madewell cali jeans…they look amazing with everything and i’ve worn them everyday since I got them!!
