The Best of the Zest

By: Jen Shoop

The borderline picnic tablecloth-esque lemon and lime print fabric from Stella McCartney’s S/S ’11 collection garnered some major attention.  Some soured on it; others raved about the festivity of the pattern.

I thought it was sort of funky amidst an otherwise minimalist collection, and if I wouldn’t wear the exact print above, the citrus colors left me thirsty for more.  So let’s hop to it — my top CITRUS looks for the spring season.  I’d pair this Jules Reid shift ($395, Jules Reid) with a white-hot statement necklace (Oscar de la Renta, $990, Net-A-Porter):

I like the boxy retro-ness of this tote ($445, Forzieri) and would finish with some white gladiators (Givenchy, $525, Farfetch):

A happy little lime-hued ring ($345, Opening Ceremony) might be just the perfect add-on:

Or go straight for the jugular (?) with the original Stella design ($725, Stella McCartney), paired with a white bead necklace ($160, Pret-A-Beaute), white skinnies, and these Michael Kors yellow-accented sandals ($239, MyWardrobe):

Perfect finished with this leather and raffia crossbody ($230, Net-A-Porter):

Or how about a simple, affordable white dress (Michael Kors, $120, Net-A-Porter) with a citrine necklace ($188, Elva Fields)

I’d finish with these bomb statement ankle-wrap tootsies ($275, DVF):

Finish with that Marc Jacobs oversized envelope clutch ($298, Barney’s) I’ve been going bonkers over — seriously, the size totally transforms the look.

Also love the way that a lived-in cognac leather brings the look into the real world, in the 21st century.  It feels modern.  Or how about this silk Vanessa Bruno Athe number ($103, TheOutnet)?

I’d accent with this amazing yellow-on-beige snakeskin-on-yellow clutch ($185, WeLikeFashion) and either stacked espadrilles or some blinged out flat sandals (Giuseppe Zanotti, $450, Intermix):

This cheerful, slightly off-kilter necklace ($45, Palma Collection) ties it all together:

For just a TOUCH of zest, I’m also in.love with this colorblocked skirt ($46, Dorothy Perkins), which I’d pair with some sort of white blouse (Vanessa Bruno Athe, $225, Net-A-Porter)

And would finish with nude/beige/greige heels ($89, Zara)

And finish with one of those Marc Jacobs Bianca cross-bodies (man, I’m loving his stuff today! — $248, Barney’s):

Alternately, how about an easy-on cotton dress ($335, Les Pommettes)

Finished with some kicky wedges (Louboutin, $495, Barney’s) and a yellow envelope clutch (Halston, $459, MyTheresa)?

Would look AMAZING finished with that Thief & Bandit statement necklace ($65, Thief & Bandit) I featured in the {magpie covets} section the other day!

Now, I know we’re a long way off from beach season (sob — or rather, YAY! — since I’m so pale I might blind other beach-goers at the moment), but this lemon-print D&G two-piece (on sale for $102, MyWardrobe) is just.perfect. for the summer:

Perfect beneath this eye-catching tunic (Milly, $295, Net-A-Porter) —

— and finished with a classic straw tote ($104, HatAttack) and some classic white t-straps ($60, Nordstrom)?

Freshen up with a little citron de vigne body wash and lotion after a day in the sun ($18.50 for wash, $22.50 for lotion — Fresh):

For the home, why not spruce up a dull couch with some lemon-print pillows ($129/pillow, Room & Board):

Or consider cheering up your kitchen with a Rifle Paper Co. citrus print ($24, Rifle Paper):

Fresh!
