The Bachelorette Bash

By: Jen Shoop

As per usual, this little Magpie cannot approach any event without preparing for the right event.  It just so happens that my over-indulgent sisters and bridesmaids have been planning a bachelorette bash on my behalf (next weekend — I’m counting down the days!), and I, of course, have to have the perfect wardrobe.  Largely inspired by Essie’s “Bachelorette Bash” color, I knew I wanted a silky, hot pink little number for the occasion.

I looked high and low for just the right thing and, finally, after a lazy midday brunch (and a few bellinis) with my girlfriend Miss Sleek, found it at Cusp.  They don’t show it on the site, but it’s a silky fuschia Amanda Uprichard mini — here’s a variation on the style ($194, Pink Mascara):

I’m going to wear it with these OMG perfect gold glitter Christian Louboutin pumps ($595, Bergdorf Goodman):

(Brief story behind these shoes: I saw them, died over them, and responsibly decided against indulging myself given the ridiculous shopping spree I’ve been on all year, courtesy of the wedding.  Then one day I caught a glimpse of them while prowling the Neiman Marcus website and I died again.  I thought: oh no, I definitely do need those puppies smiling back at me from my closet.  And by then — thanks to Sarah Jessica Parker, who wore them in the recent “Sex and the City” film — they were sold out in my size.  I called everywhere — sold out, sold out, sold out (inflection of disdain in the voices of all Louboutin purveyors).  Then, lo and behold, a few days ago, I randomly stumbled upon them again online and checked to see if maybe they had some restocked sizes — AND YES!  — I snagged the last pair of size 35s in the entire USA apparently.)  BUT I had already purchased a pair of backup shoes that I’m bananas over.  Now, don’t judge the brand but aren’t these phenomenal?! (Enzo Angiolini, $79, Nordstrom):

And so budget-friendly!  Woo!  I’ll be keeping both, thank you.  For accessories, I like the idea of some big, glitzy studs (CCSkye, $150, CoutureCandy):

If you’re not afraid of the matchy-matchy, this pyramid ring from my favorite cocktail jeweler, nOir, is ideal ($80, Noir Jewelry):

Alternately, I’m obsessed with this Alexis Bittar bauble ($140, Nordstrom):

Love the sparking gold-and-crystal combo and the organic shape.  If you’re all about the glitz and glamor, test drive this kickin Alice & Olivia ($495, ChickDownTown):

Sure, it’s been all over the place (I feel like I saw 3,983 celebs in it) and may be slightly last year, but — how can you go wrong with a sequined gold mini?!  Very Vegas here-we-come.  My thoughts are: there are some events that just invite you to dress up and over the top, and why not run with that?  If you’re more of a silver gal, check out this deeply discounted Gryphon ($149.50, ChickDownTown):

Love the idea of pairing it with those killer Louboutins I’ve featured a couple of times already ($1,995, Bergdorf Goodman):

If you’d rather play down the sparkly factor, stick with a bright pink, short, girls-just-wanna-have-fun dress, as I did.  I also considered this cinch-waisted, tiered Ali Ro (on sale for $165, Bluefly):

In the end, I decided I wanted something even BRIGHTER — a touch closer to neon — but I’m kind of in love with this melon pink shade for the summer in general.  Perfect with bright aqua accents, like this funky little Nuugard ring ($123, Max and Chloe):

If you’re loving the coral-aqua combo for this summer (so fresh looking), I also considered the Amanda Uprichard Joan dress ($194, Pink Mascara) in a peppy coral.  You’ve probably seen it before because Audrina Patridge from “The Hills” wore it all over the tabloids (…and I read them regularly — my guilty pleasure):

Love the necklace shown on the model here (this photo is taken from Red Dress Boutique, but they only have XS left).  I believe she’s wearing a Blu Bijoux brand necklace, which you can find for $57 at Max & Chloe:

I’m not sure how I feel about the silver beading that links the beads to the tie — I wish they were in gold.  But you can’t win ’em all, and you can’t beat the price!  I’d probably be more inclined to slip into this CC Skye version (“The Gigi” — $295, CoutureCandy):

Or perhaps the “Sag Harbor” necklace by Amrita Singh ($250, also Couture Candy):

Either would look splashy with the hue of this coral Zimmermann dress ($178, Zimmermann Store):

Love the idea of pairing the aqua-salmon combo with gold heels and a little gold clutch.  However, as mentioned earlier, I was adamant about wearing hot pink as the bride-to-be.  (Sometimes I bear witness to fashion imperatives of dubious origin — why hot pink?!  I probably saw a hot pink-adorned bachelorette in a magazine, movie, or real-life moment in the past and it’s been so indelibly marked on my fashion consciousness  that I just need to carry it out.  I find that going with my gut in these cases typically works out, however.)  Other options of the day-glo pink variety?  Love the shocking pink of Tibi’s Grande Sol collection, in either the sleeveless (on sale $172, Heery’s — while you’re there, check out the ridiculous sale section — loads of Milly and Tibi and even Jack Rogers at 50% off!) or the caftan version ($358, Shopbop):

Such a happy color.  For a patterned alternative, consider this cheery, ready-to-fiesta halter by Campaigne (on sale for $119, Bluefly):

Or perhaps this Envi blouson-top dress (on sale for $79, Heery’s):

Somewhat similar to the classic Parker brand “cami” dress — and oh, how I love that dress.  Perfect for a night out, a bachelorette party, a date night — so feminine and so chic.  They come out with new, of-the-moment prints every season.  I was heartbroken when I finally ordered one on sale at Shopbop, only to find that it was gapingly enormous on me (beyond alterations) even in an XS.  I know, I know — I shouldn’t complain about that kind of sizing issue — but I so wanted one!  Get yours for $187 at Revolve Clothing and I’ll just envy from afar.  I’m loving this soft lavender print:

The style of the dress is frilly and fun enough that even in the lady-like lavender, you could totally rock it at a big girl’s night out.  You can find the style in tons of other prints/colors at Singer22 as well.

The other option I briefly considered when I was beginning to despair of my hot pink dream dress?  This lobster red Loeffler Randall dress (on STEEP sale for $225, Shopbop):

The top has an interested seamed-fringe deal going on — very cha-cha-cha and fun in just the way a bachelorette party dress should be!  The color is unbeatable — just right for a Lollipop red manicure (although I must say I’ve lately been veering into the Essie “Geranium” camp.  It’s perfect for the toesies once you’ve got a tan going.)  If you like the color but aren’t crazy about the spaghetti fringe detailing at the top, I also looked at this sweet little Anlo dress ($264, Shop Hysteria):

Die over the color and, as with my dress, find the cinched-in waist flattering and the silky material evening-out-perfect.  It also comes in this slightly-more-demure cut ($275, Thera M.):

The latter would be perfect if you’re looking to rock a statement-making bib necklace in coral or gold — the neckline is much more amenable to it.  Lastly, I’ll add that if you’re not so much into the candy colored cocktail dress, black is always appropriate.  I don’t judge.  There are some days where it’s just easier and more flattering to reach for the black dress.  And if you fall into that category, please consider this heavily-discounted, ridiculously gorgeous Nili Lotan ($86 — down from $345!!! — Chickdowntown):

Take it out to play with some sparkling accents — a pair of glittered shoes and maybe these delightfully-oversized crystal studs ($106, Rachel Leigh):

(J. Crew, as I’ve featured in previous posts, also has some awesome, affordable “big rocks” jewelry.)  I like the idea of pairing the dress and earrings above with the Kate Spade Carly ($375, Kate Spade):

So festive!  If, by the way, your girls aren’t so much into the little dress scene (or maybe your venue is not appropriate for it — though I’d probably still rock one anyway), consider a bright little “going out” top like this little Anlo top (cool back; check it out! — on sale for $58, Midgett Gray):

Wear with super-dark skinny ankle jeans or white skinnies with some statement-making shoes.  I actually quite like the Kate Spade Carly in plain gold — love the texture ($298, Kate Spade):

But Kate Spade’s “Clarice” is equally lovely if you’re more of a “I need to match” magpie ($298, Zappos):

Just thinking about all the kicky options above has got me absolutely giddy about my party next weekend — eee!  Getting ready for the bubbly…
