Life lately:
+Burning this holiday scented Diptyque candle nonstop ($35). It smells like freshly baked gingerbread or something I can’t quite put my finger on. Delightful.
+Wearing lots of puffy coats. (My favorite is my bright red Canada Goose.) Irony, because when I first moved up to Chicago, I swore that I wouldn’t ever wear “one of those sleeping coat bags.” Oh how time and weather have changed me.
+Baking my first batch of Christmas cookies. I tried this sugar cookie recipe from Martha Stewart–the addition of cinnamon to a sugar cookie was enticing to me. They were pretty good, but not the best sugar cookie I’ve ever made. They dough did roll out nicely though, which was a huge perk.
+Planning additional baking experiments, like these little Italian donuts (um, yum) — I just made these yeasted waffles and they were SO, so good. Plus, something magical about prepping something the night before and waking up to finish them off. Would be a good pick for a breakfast send-off for out-of-town guests. (Who wouldn’t love waking up to the smell of waffles??)
+Unapologetically binge-watching the Showtime series The Affair. It is so bad/good. I can’t stand half of the characters, but Maura Tierney is a REVELATION. OMG. She is so much more than the mom in Liar Liar. Love her.
+Ordering a ton of Christmas gifts. I don’t want to mention what I’ve snagged for fear of certain readers then not being surprised on Christmas…but they are GOOD.
