Microtrend: The Shacket.

By: Jen Shoop

Are you into the shacket (shirt + jacket) statement that’s happening right now? It’s a little edgy for me, but in a way that makes me want to give it a try by polishing it up with some pointed toe boots or those gorgeous pearled Kirkwoods I’m eyeing and marching around the UWS. (Wearing this in Soho or anywhere downtown, the shacket is probably already old news. Ha. See here for downtown chic inspo with this look, which you can recreate with this or this.) Below, a few pics to get the look:

If the look is too intense for you, tone it down with something like one of these liner jackets (your mini can twin with you in this) or this slightly more structured offshoot for a similar but slightly more refined effect.

And if your little one wants to get in on the trend, how amazing are this plaid coat and this sherpa one?

P.S. Another huge trend for fall, and lots of amazing fall finds for under $100.

P.P.S. What bag are you carrying this season?

P.P.P.S. What’s on your fall bucket list?

  1. I already commented about this on a different post, but YES, I am here for the shacket! It reminds me of my “grunge” phase in 1995/6 (a few years behind the times, lol) and I love the idea of polishing it up with some nice boots and feminine accessories. Going to try — that Sézane option is too good!

    1. Oh my God YES, MK. I just had a flashback to badboy Kurt Cobain wearing the equivalent of a 2020 shacket and now I realize why I’m drawn to the trend. (Who didn’t have a crush on Kurt Cobain?! Also, I still sometimes have Nirvana on my running playlists.)

  2. I recently snapped up a vintage men’s Pendleton shirt in a neutral plaid that I’m excited to use as a shacket! Like you, I plan to pair it with pointed toe mules or velvet headband to make it a little more feminine. I’m in the northwest where the plaid over shirt is ubiquitous in less than chic way haha but I am hopeful I can distinguish the shacket as cute this fall!

    1. OMG Katherine, this sounds insanely chic. Love the idea of pairing with a velvet headband — literally went into my closet after reading this and fished mine out from last season. Thanks for the styling tip 🙂

  3. I’ve had my eye on the IRO tweed snap front jacket but the BB Dakota is similar and for a lot less. Speaking of pearls, have you seen the Stuart Wietzman tweed and pearl combat boot? It is a stunner!
