I have always loved holidays — any excuse to get dressed up, decorate, run with a theme is up my alley — but I have dialed things up over the past year, with Emory at an age where she goes wild over the smallest of decorations and without much else to mark the passing of time given how little we can do outside the home. 1. Ugh it’s all too cute! I love Valentine’s Day, but mostly for the little ones. This week, I was talking with my co-teachers about how we will “do” VDay, and it dawned on us they are learning about Chinese New Year this month and the Venn diagram of the color red. When I got home, it dawned on me: the red string of fate. Are you familiar? I will let you google it, as it undoubtedly will be described much for accurately and succinctly! So, my thought was to have, maybe, a longggggggg red string hung all around the classroom until VDay, then we cut it into small lengths to tie around their friends’ wrists? Just something to share, to add to your already fabulous ideas.
P.S. since John and I fell in love over the phone, I came across the red string mythology, and mailed him one in a card that said, “our string is getting shorter…”.
He wore it to pick me up at the airport, when I came up to visit “for a weekend”… which turned into 10 years, and an engagement in October. <3

  2. Thank you so much for the letterpress recs! That was so kind of you to hunt. I used to have a girls-only Valentine’s Day party (long before GALentine’s Day was a thing) and this feels like carrying on the tradition. Plus my grandparents always appreciate cards 😉

  3. I wasn’t one for seasonal decorating but with little kids, I’ve changed, ha. And the house always looks so bare after taking down all the Christmas decorations, so what better excuse than Valentine’s Day?! Target also surprisingly had some cute Valentine’s Day crafts – I picked some up to make card sets to have my daughter make cards to send to family members.

We have a set of the Books to Bed pajamas/book (in the Madeline print of course), and they are darling. Also, in case you’re interested, I made a whole set of clips for Valentine’s Day – couldn’t help it with all the pink and glitter!

    1. I know — I have changed so much as well! I love getting all kitted out for a special occasion. I even dye the cream cheese pink! It’s the little things…

      Yay for Valentine’s hair clips!!

      xx

  4. Thank you! I always love your recommendations and I’m right there with you on leaning in to celebrating. These celebrations and traditions are what our kids will remember.
Do you have any letterpress recs for sending valentines to girlfriends?

    Xoxo
