Le Striped Shirtdress.

By: Jen Shoop

I’ve already shared my obsession with the borrowed-from-the-boys poplin shirting trend, but today I thought I’d drill deeper and focus on one of my all-time favorite workhorse wardrobe items (I probably should have included it in my wardrobe basics must-haves): the striped shirtdress.  Timeless, never “out” (but very very “in” right now, too), and appropriate for any age.  It brings to mind freshly sharpened pencils, rich mahogany leather, signet rings, and the crunch of autumn leaves under feet.  Basically: a prepster’s autumnal dream.  But, so many street style starlets have taken the striped shirtdress and run with it in a totally opposite direction, imbuing the Ivy League classic with a devil-may-care, slightly-edgy-and-off-kilter vibe.  I like.

My top picks for getting the look:

+This Veronica Beard (#swoon).

+This Ralph Lauren (on sale for $66!!!)

+This Derek Lam.

+This cool girl Everlane midi ($78).  Think of wearing it with Supergas, or pointed-toe loafers, or even over pants as the chic pea above did!

+This Rebecca Taylor, marked way down and now available in more than just a size L!

+This menswear-inspired Tibi with its amazing oversized cuffs.  Very on point trend-wise.

+Wallet-friendly: TopShop has a couple of super cute options, like this one with its asymmetric buttons at the neckline ($90) and this bow-sleeved one (on sale for under $60)!

+This Miu Miu is the stuff of dreams.  Even on sale, it’s pricey mcpricerson though.  (Although, check out my other picks from the Matches sale…so many amazing bargains!)

+At the very top of my list: this Tory Burch or this T By Alexander Wang.

+Finally: not a dress, but how freaking sexy and cool would you feel in this statement top?!
