In the Mood for Burgundy.

By: Jen Shoop

I can’t get enough burgundy this season! So many of the fall dresses I featured in this blogpost last week feature it and I love the way it plays with navy, khaki/taupe, pink, ivory, and forest green. A few favorite finds in this moody hue:

P.S. “I respect the athlete at the start line.”

P.P.S. “Is it possible to experience a full day of happiness? A full afternoon? Or does happiness always exist like this: in startling sips? I think back on a couple of fantastic trips, experiences, meals, special occasions, “golden hours,” and I feel as though maybe I’ve “rounded up” and written the entirety of the day off as “happy” when I’m certain, come to think of it, there were moments of stress or frustration or quietude tucked in there alongside the good. And what does it mean that I think about happiness as little dots along the seams of my days?” More on happiness here.

P.P.P.S. Fall textures and some fun recent finds.

  1. I hardly ever wear red, but burgundy is really calling out to me this fall!

(Although, we’re really still quite a ways from fall in CA)

I’ve had my eye on Mulberry’s small Amberley crossbody satchel for a number of years now, in the “oxblood” color — the name always made me shudder a bit but it’s a gorgeous shade. The price has been going up ever since it came out though!

    1. Ooo so chic. I feel like Mulberry is such an underrated brand nowadays — it had a big moment in the aughts but now I never hear about it! Their pieces are lovely though! Thanks for drawing me over there!

  2. When thinking of happiness, I always come back to this quote (paraphrasing here) “happiness is a thing that passes through you, not something you meet and hold in your grip forever after.” It’s a fluid- not static- thing that comes and goes. I take it to mean that we should acknowledge and appreciate happiness when it arrives, but don’t worry if it’s brief, because it’ll be back again soon. I took my first-ever Citibike ride early this morning and it boosted my mood so, so much that I’ve just been relishing the high while it lasts this morning.

    1. I love this, especially the concept that happiness “passes through us.” That resonates with the filling, doesn’t it? How you can feel suddenly filled to the brim with it? Glad you enjoyed that morning ride. Incredible what some fresh air and exercise can do!

      xx

  3. Oh I love burgundy my car was burgundy going to college. I’ve worn burgundy as a school uniform also lol. Then I went to work at a job with a uniform but it was blue lol.

  4. I find it hilarious that I wear burgundy by choice as an adult when it was my uniform. A burgundy shirt with khaki pants/skirt and a brown belt. Gotta love Catholic school uniforms and dress code. These are lovely finds. And your posts on happiness resonate with me. There’s something Charlotte from SATC had said on happiness, in the first movie I think that she may not be happy all day but she is overall happy.

    1. I remember that quote! Oh man, old SATC is full of gems.

For school, ee didn’t have burgundy — we had forest green kilts and these hideous itchy sweaters. Which, funnily enough, just like you, I now love…

      xx
