Honeymooning Around

By: Jen Shoop

Important preface: be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for TWO exciting giveaways!  EEE!

Also, I may have bragged last week about an upcoming tripski to Turnberry Isle, which has obviously sent me into a full-on shopaholic frenzy of wardrobe-planning activity just shy in its level of intensity to the pre-honeymoon “situation” I succumbed to nearly two years ago.  {Imagine the Tazmanian Devil ripping through your local Neiman Marcus.  That was me.}  Based on a few telling emails from my lovely bride-to-be readers, I am not alone in this — many of you are trolling your local storefronts designing the ultimate honeymoon trousseau, and I think it’s about time t0 compare notes.  I’m debuting a new packing strategy for this upcoming trip, which I must attribute to my uber-coordinated madre: I’m trying to pick a bunch of separates in coordinating colors so I can mix and match.  The color for this trip will be: HOT PINK.  {Turnberry is, after all, just outside of Miami.}  The plan is to mix it in with separates in different bold hues — but everything MUST play well with hot pink.  So, for the trip down, my thought is: an eyelet/lace top ($110, Net-A-Porter) with white skinnies (many of you swear by Hudson Jeans for your white jeans, but I’m still a J. Brand gal, through and through), a neon-accented necklace (I just snapped this style up, and am itching for it to arrive — $42, LeifShop), and some bold sandals ($125, Shopbop):

Lovely with a simple cross-body purse {for essentials like phone, boarding pass, and ID — $148, Ann Taylor):

Because I always get cold on flights {and the above look is a little loud for pre-Miami arrival}, I’d slip into a navy blazer ($198, J. Crew) and pack a scarf/pashmina ($195, Virgina Johnson):

Finally, layer on some of these fun nautical style bracelets from Maine-based jewelry line Ropes ($52, Snappy Turtle — also available here):

Upon arrival, I would swap out for an airy, punchy caftan ($375, Sheridan French) accented by a turquoise pendant necklace ($225, Max and Chloe)

I’d finish with a simple jute tote (Rebecca Minkoff, $195, Endless):

— and some fab jute wedges (DVF, $278, Shopbop):

For beach-side/pool-side lounging, I might pair this straw hat ($96, Hat Attack) with this unbelievable affordable find ($29, Old Navy)

I was torn between the Old Navy style above and this $158 Splendid variation, but in the end, went with the budget-friendly version!  I might accent with these fun little drops ($22, Color Block Shop) and this fun cuff ($325, ShopKitson) to transition from the pool to lunch/dinner/cocktails:

Or keep the add-ons to a minimum and instead pair with this Celine-look-alike tote ($99!!!!!, ModCloth):

Meanwhile, this hot pink tote ($214, Matches) is a must-have, and would go equally well with this darling little tunic ($215, Virginia Johnson):

Finish with this fun pendant necklace ($74, BaubleBar):

Or, how about for a date night out, this silky little dream (on sale for $118, Rebecca Taylor) with some orange drops ($34, BaubleBar):

Fun with these color-blocked wedges ($385, MyMu) and this punchy clutch (WOW, color — around $500, Anya Hindmarch):

Finally, if you’re still looking for some easy daywear, check out the punchy pareos from Antik Batik (aorund $180, Antik Batik); the fun collection from Seaton Surf, including this punchy cover-up ($198, Seaton Surf); and the neon flips from Tkees ($48, Shopbop):

I can almost taste the daiquiris now…and PSST.  If you’re still not satisfied/need more inspiration for your honeymoon trousseau, check out the Mara Hoffman collection for more day-glo, honeymoon-ready picks.  OLE!

DON’T FORGET to leave a comment on yesterday’s post if you want to win the $50 gift card to Laura James Jewelry!  BUT — I have another awesome treat for you: A friend of mine — one of the coolest little chic peas in D.C. — belongs to the Junior League of Washington and has announced that the JLW is oh-so-generously giving away two Junior League of Washington Shop Around cards to two lucky Magpies!  These cards are good for 20 percent discounts at a variety of shops (including Kate Spade, Urban Chic, Dawn Price Baby, Stuart Weitzman, Brooks Brothers, Vineyard Vines, and Juicy Couture), spas, restaurants and bars (and the Bar Method) from April 21-28.  The cards usually sell for $25 each, with all proceeds going to fund community programs, scholarships and other Junior League literacy efforts. (If you don’t win, the cards are for sale on the JLW website).  All you need to do is leave a comment on today’s post.  I’ll announce a winner tomorrow so we can get you your card in a timely fashion!

  1. Planning my wardrobe for a trip is 99% of the excitement leading up to it for me! i love imagining what i’ll be doing and how relaxed i’ll be feeling when wearing each outfit! You picked out such insanely gorgeous coverups that I am itching for a beach vacay now too (though when am I not?!)!

hope y’all have an amazing trip!!

  2. What a cool giveaway! And I agree with your choice of the striped dress…I like the budget version better too! I’ve also had my eye on that Ann Taylor purse since it came out. I’m definitely a pink girl!

    1. Now that I’m looking more closely at the cards, they seem like they are only valid for the DC area. If so, you don’t need to enter me in the giveaway…I’ll try for the next one! 🙂
