Going GaGa

A word of warning: this will be a bit more whimsical and conceptual than the average Magpie post, but I just feel that I can’t go any longer without acknowledging the huge fashion influence that Lady GaGa has had on pop culture over the past couple of years.  (I’m also slightly obsessed with her music.  And by slightly I mean that I own all of her tracks and work out to them regularly.)  So take these styles with a grain of salt, but know that many of them can be remixed into your wardrobe in one-off fashion.  Sometimes you need a little edge — a bit of grit — to fold into your otherwise well-manicured appearance.  And who better to draw inspiration from than the spotlight-stealing Lady GaGa?

She’s been compared to Madonna, she’s frequently hailed for her fearless fashion sense (especially in terms of her tendency to wear haute couture in the real world), and she’s all around nutso — but what I like about her aesthetic is the seamless integration of 80s pop, irreverence, and futurism.  It’s scene-stealing, and it all begins with some killer shades (Ciccio, $175, Ssense):

If you’re worried the sisor shade look will go majorly out by next year, consider these inxpensive Aldos ($12, Aldo):

The crystal studs along the top are tres GaGa, as are these rockin Giuseppe Zanotti pumps (on sale for $651, Bergdorf Goodman):

To get the whole look down, pair with a disco-ready top (Velvet, $120, MyTheresa) and a mini bandage skirt (the brand “Pleasure Doing Business” popularized the style a year or two ago, but the style below is by Blank — on sale for $58, Bloomingdale’s):

Maybe a little disc0 ball ring is in order?  Slip this Kate Spade bauble on ($65, Bloomingdale’s):

Or how about a little pop star lace get up?  Madonna was into it, and so is GaGa.

Get the (much less risque) look with this little Thakoon jumper ($525, La Garconne):

Now, we’ve all seen GaGa go pantless (and shirtless)

…but hopefully no one in the real world will do so.  You can still get the pop star cool factor by layering this funky little bodysuit by Rosa Cha ($30o, Net-A-Porter) beneath a highwaisted skirt ($49.90, Express), however:

GaGa would top it all of with sunglasses — maybe these unexpectedly contrasting Mosley Tribes?  (Snag ’em for $180 at Barney’s.)

And — you know — some not-at-all-uber-self-conscious gloves (Agnelle, $92, Galeries Lafayette):

Now, we’ve all seen and been alternately mesmerized or repulsed by the bow hair do she’s rocked:

She’d probably opt for gloves as her major fashion accoutrement, however.  (Not advisable for us mortals — but you can pick these up for other uses, i.e. keeping your hands warm in the winter, on sale for $79 at Thomas Pink):
