Flash Dance

By: Jen Shoop

The past few seasons have been heavy on the neon in a delicious and refreshing way — and I guess it’s still sticking around, as evidenced by the fashionistas that flocked to fashion week this past month.  Check yo self: Anna Dello Russo in a flash of neon patterns; street-style darling Miroslava Dama ruling it in shocking orange and acid green; and a show-goer with a flare for the day-glo:

These snaps totally excited me and reinspired my fashion wardrobe.  I’m still drooling over the idea of one of these monogrammed Cambridge Company satchels ($155, Cambridge Satchel Company):

I’m leaning towards the neon yellow with the blind embossing.  I can’t help it — I saw it on Carolina Engman of The Fashion Squad last spring and have been dying over it ever since.

On the other hand, I saw it in the bold pink on a chic pea during fashion week and fell head over heels…

{And, P.S., I heard from Carolina Engman…via her blog, not by word of mouth (I’m not that cool)…that it takes forever to get your merchandise from Cambridge Satchel, so if you end up going with the hot pink style, you may want to order it through J. Crew here.}  I’d pair mine with a neutral, linen shirt-dress ($117, TheOutnet) and a statement necklace (I love all of the variations of this style from Spike the Punch — such great colors! — $36, Spike the Punch):

If you’re into even bolder neckwear, follow in the footsteps of Blair of Atlantic Pacific and check out the INCROYABLE collection from Noble House Designs — most are under $200.  I’d finish with my Cambridge Company satchel and a pair of jazzed-up black flats (Prada, $650, Bergdorf’s):

I’d finish the look with a bold scarf, worn loosely around the neck or tied to my purse, and I like any of the bold patterns from this collection by Jill Kirsh ($150 apiece, Jill Kirsh Color):

I’m coveting cobalt blue in a mega way this season — I even bought these J. Brand skinnies earlier this season and I’m loving pairing it with whites and blacks for a particularly eye-catching get-up.  Something like this Tibi top ($245, Stylebop) would be right up my alley, and I’d pair it with black skinnies, a chunky statement necklace ($110, Of a Kind), and these TDF blue-tipped heels ($69, Zara…I need ’em):

I’d finish with this neon-tipped foldover clutch ($149, Clare Vivier) and this eye-catching cuff ($145, Max & Chloe):

Alternately, how about this printed Tibi dress (love the brushstroke effect in the print — on sale for $283, MyWardrobe) and a bold necklace ($65, Of A Kind):

Pair with bold footwear ($118, Vince Camuto) —

— and a pop of pink bag ($989, MyTheresa):

Or maybe test-out a patterned blouse top (Tibi, $231, Boutique1) with a bold necklace ($50, Of A Kind), a black pencil skirt (T by Alexander Wang, $140, Revolve Clothing):

I’d top it off with bold blue suede pumps ($590, Intermix) and this insta-icon Christopher Kane clutch, which was all.over.the.place during fashion week ($530, Net-A-Porter):

Finish — if you can bear a bit more color — with this uh-may-zing cuff ($70, Max & Chloe):

A bit more adventurous?  Consider this BRIGHT yellow Matthew Williamson skirt ($550, Net-A-Porter) with a black blouse tucked into it (adore this collarless style — and it’s overlong, so could easily be worn with leggings or jeans — $78, TheOutnet) and a collar necklace atop (Marni, $335, Net-A-Porter):

Finish with fierce black booties (on sale for $189, Piperlime) and a printed clutch (on sale for $140, Glassworks):

For something in the citrus family, consider this versatile orange wool skirt (could be worn with neutrals/herringbone for a Borrowed from the Boys look, or, as shown here, in more of the DAY-GLO family — $250, Net-A-Porter), worn with a neutral top ($170, Reiss) and a bold aqua statement necklace ($140, Loren Hope):

Could easily be worn with black tights in the winter and finished with some  simple black pumps ($172, Zappos)

A turquoise clutch ($50, American Apparel) and black blazer finish the look (like the rolled-up sleeves on this style — $575, LaGarconne, although I’ve had my eye on this awesome tuxedo lapel style from B.B. Dakota, available for $115 — already sold out at Shopbop!):

EEEE!  Can’t wait to roll out some bold looks later this week…
