Escape Artist

By: Jen Shoop

I don’t want to brag, but I’m about to leave these frosty climes for warmer weather — I’ll be spending the next few days in sunny FL at my parents’ “winter home” with all of the sibs, Mr. Magpie, and my parents.  And I am pumped.  See ya, fur; see ya, boots.  I’ll be maxing and relaxing with gleeful abandon in 80 degree warmth.  Time to get packin.  (And I would love to be using these vintage-style roll-a-boards — $280-$320, Steamline Luggage) for that purpose:

My fashion forecast for the coming week?  Enorma-shades (Balenciaga, $360, Forzieri), bold jewelry (love new line Shourouk — $215, Net-A-Porter), breezy caftans (I’m still coveting one of these classic LemLem styles — $248, LemLem), and glam sandals (love K. Jacques — $275, Calypso):

I’d add a bright blue tote (on sale for $395, MyTheresa), and would fill it with beach essentials (Nars Illuminator, $29, Saks; some lip balm — love this stuff! — $22.50, SkinCareRX); and scented sunscreen towelettes ($12 for 10, Sephora):

Oh, and of course, some eye-catching beach towels ($125 apiece, Roberta Roller Rabbit):

Once I have a base tan going (wouldn’t want to make my siblings’ eyes bleed with my paleness by jumping in too early), I’ll hang out in this Missoni-esque bikini ($85 for top, $85 for bottom — Calypso):

I’d wear it with some classic aviators (Ray Ban, $138, Island Surf), a tasseled pendant ($85, ShopLatitude), and this oversized white shirt ($165, LesPommettes):

And then — some fun colorblocked sandals ($79, Bloomingdale’s):

For nights out, I love this easy-on lace dress ($450, Calypso), which I’d punch up with a bold be-gemmed collar necklace ($318, Dannijo):

I like the look finished with these bronze bow-toed tootsies (Valentino, $745, Neiman’s):

I’d punch it up with a bold little pouch clutch.  These PS1 styles are going to absolutely fly off the shelves ($345, Proenza Schouler), and I can’t decide if I prefer it in the orchid or citrus:

Alternately, opt for this slightly less utilitarian style from Michael Kors in similarly fetching colors ($395, Shopbop):

Either would lovely this with bold caftan ($198, Vivre), which could make the transition very easily from laying out to shopping or eating out:

Finish with Barbie pink flats (Tory Burch, $220, Pret-A-Beaute) and a bold statement necklace ($225, Julie Elizabeth):

Alert: today’s your LUCKY day if you are — like me — obsessing over the hand-crafted loveliness of the necklaces featured above.  The darling Julie of Julie Elizabeth has offered one lucky TFM reader this bomb pair of earrings!  All you need to do is LIKE me on Facebook or  follow me on Twitter and then leave a comment on this post below explaining why you want the earrings.  I’ll announce a winner on FRIDAY!  AND if you, like, NEED that necklace above (or anything else from her lovely collection), enjoy 20% off with coupon code: HOLIDAYS.  Yeehaw!

Really, one can never own enough caftans for beach-side/pool-side/inside lounging, so I’ve also got my eye on this geranium-red accented number ($295, Calypso).  Perfection with the Tom Ford Nikitas I’m still coveting ($360, Barneys):

I’d wear it atop this metallic-stripe two-piece ($95, Reiss) —

— and would tuck all of my belongings into this simple woven tote ($79, Mar Y Sol):

On a softer note, how about this violet-hued sweater (on sale for $179, Seaton Surf) with white shorts (T by Alexander Wang, $68, TheOutnet):

The violet sweater above is the perfect accompaniment to the soft scent of Stella ($44 for solid perfume, CosmeticMall) and a gleaming gold watch (Nixon, $200, Shopbop):

I’d finish it off with some wear-anywhere-and-with-anything gold flips (TKEES,$48, Shopbop):

Finally, I’m currently head over heels for this maxi-length Missoni caftan (on sale for $489, Barney’s), which I’d pair with a chunky statement necklace ($32, ShopFurbish) and these adorable gold bow sandals (Prada, on sale for $315, Bergdorf’s):

I’d finish with this woven roll clutch ($105, SuperTrash):

Eee, I can barely contain my excitement!  Anyone else traveling somewhere fun for the holidays?!  Share!   Also: remember to enter my giveaway for the Julie Elizabeth earrings!  Get on it, girl — a nice little Christmas present to yourself.

  1. Been following you on facebook for months now!:) Wish I was going somewhere warm – enjoy that Florida sun girl! But I must not complain, I went on my amazing honeymoon in October to the little Carribean gem of Nevis…had tons of fun in the sun!
I need to have these earrings not only because they are gorgeous and I LOVE jewelry but because I just got a fabulous jewelry amiore that is screaming for something else to hold! I have one dedicated earring drawer with little velvet lined cubby holes…and there are vacancies!:) These chic earrings would be the most perfect addition to my collection!
Happy Holidays and cheers to a wonderful new year! xo
