Deck the Halls

By: Jen Shoop

Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone and it’s time to deck the Magpie halls.  Mr. Magpie will be playing his annual bit role of Clark Griswold as we find our tree this weekend {he always picks the biggest, and with super-high ceilings in our new digs, I’m slightly terrified at the scope of tree he has in mind for us} and I’ll be rolling out the decorations, stockings, wreaths, and lights.  The newest addition to the Magpie nest?  This silver ball wreath ($50).  I normally go with a classic boxwood style, but this is something I can roll out year after year:

We’re going to put on the carols and enjoy a holiday cocktail {this one, to be exact} or ten in some festive barware ($96 for set of 4) and some stripey straws ($8):

And if I’m really swept up in the holiday spirit, I might get some wrapping done, as we have so.many.presents to administer this year.  I’m especially loving all the wrapping goodies from SugarPaper, like this reversible wrapping paper ($8) and these “From Santa” tags ($9):

I’ll be wearing my own little deck-the-halls get-up — this lovely chiffon dot blouse ($128 — INFINITELY wearable) with a plaid scarf ($39), some distressed jeans (loving the lighter, looser, more distressed styles for casual Saturdays), and those Valentino Rockstud flats ($845 – UGH!  PLEASE BE MINE!):

In terms of jewelry, I’m going classic — gold ball studs (such a great price for a classic — $52), a woven cuff ($85), and a personalized necklace ($50 — great gift!):

I’d finish with a cheery red coat ($600 — though, if we’re talking coats, how beyond adorable is this bow-front topper from J. Crew?!  OMG.) and some furry earmuffs ($56):

And then a winter white cross-body from Chloe ($1,500):

Although — let’s be honest.  I think I’d wind up in my pajamas ($25 for set) on the early end, snuggling by the hearth.

Speaking of snuggling by the hearth, another great stocking stuffer / gift for a loved one? These cozy little winter booties ($39):

Ooh la la, the holidays are HERE!  PS — A gift from me to you?  This HYSTERICAL recording of two little sisters recounting an incident in which one cut the other’s hair.  I literally cried with laughter when the elder said: “When I put down the scissors and looked at her hair I said – Uh-oh.  This is bad bad bad bad bad bad.”
