Cap-tain.

By: Jen Shoop

So, I have a horrible truth to share today: there was a time in my life when I rocked a bucket hat.  My sisters and besties will never let me forget this fashion atrocity.  It makes my stomach churn, but such is life.

As much as I wish I could delete that fashion faux pas, it does point to a notable trend in my fashion proclivities to date: I do enjoy a well-styled hat.  I’ve worn Panama hats, floppy beach hats, big Southern hats, and my fair share of baseball caps.  (My current favorite is a chambray baseball cap I scored at J. Crew.  Every time I wear it, I do get a lot of compliments.)  I mean, how chic are these high-fashion cap looks?!

For fall, then, I’ve got my eye on this quilted style ($32):

(PS: I guess Ralph had the same idea, because check out this nearly-identical style from Mr. Lauren.)  So chic with a chunky knit (Nili Lotan for J. Crew, $470 — also have my eye on this affordable style from Zara), distressed jeans, perfect plaid flats (plaid is so huge for this fall — Joie, on sale for $110; alternately, check out this similar J. Crew pair), and a monogrammed carry-all (love the style of the initials…very Goyard; $188):

Other options: this chic plaid ($32 — I might have to snag this the more I look at it and envision it with jeans and a navy or camel blazer); this luxe burgundy leather style ($110); a classic felted navy ($19); this designer edition Stella McCartney investment ($300); or houndstooth and leather ($38).

Ah, fall.  You’re not so bad.

  1. love this post, i’m actually welcoming fall this year! and i was glad to see an outfit for those plaid shoes, i bought those Charles Phillip tartan flats last year, but didn’t wear them ONE time because I never knew what to pair them with! I thought they would be so versatile and go with everything, but when it went to wearing them, i always thought they looked weird. so this was fun to see an actual outfit that incorporates them 🙂
