Arizona.

My brother and sister-in-law lived in Tucson, AZ for several years and absolutely loved it.  I had the opportunity to visit them and found the dry heart and cactus forests fetching — it was a climate and terrain so alien to me that I almost felt I’d traveled to a different planet.  I did not, however, take kindly to the black widows all over the backyard of my brother’s charming rambler home — they made thick, cotton-like webs in the most unfortunate spaces (i.e., the interior of his grill) and haunted my dreams.  My sister-in-law had done an incredible job of outfitting the house in what I would consider a blend of midcentury modern and Aztec/Arizona style that I still find inspiring.  The snaps below will get you in the mood:
