The Fashion Magpie The Best Cocktail Dresses

Les Best Cocktail Dresses.

*Chic pea above is wearing head to toe Oscar De La Renta.

I’ve had a lot of requests recently for suggestions for formal/semi-formal events this fall.  ‘Tis the season, I s’pose.  (I cringe to admit that I listened to the Charlie Brown Christmas album one recent Saturday.  #dontjudge).  Below, my favorite cocktail and evening dresses right now:

FEATHER-TRIMMED MAGIC (A KEY TREND FOR FALL 2018!)

PAILLETTES NEVER LOOKED SO CHIC (LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE)

TINSEL WRAP

OMG THIS SEQUINNED BEAUTY (TOO LOUD?  TRY THIS VARIATION)

GERANIUM RED SWING DRESS

DARK FLORAL WITH POWDER PUFF PUMPS

ETHEREAL FROTH

PRETTY PLEATS

LBD, WITH A TWIST (LOVE THE HIGH FASHION SHAPE — V. DIOR)

Pour les accessories:

+Love these starburst earrings, these oversized hearts, these oysters (!!!), and these Oscar lookalikes.  (I ordered a pair of the latter last year in a lavender color and was astounded by the quality.  These are super fun, but these would go with EVERYTHING.)

+Still drooling over Loeffler Randall’s Zadie bag, but I also love this acrylic monogrammable clutch.  My ultimate dream, however?  A classic Bottega Veneta knot clutch.  (You can find some gently used ones here.)

+A feather bolero.  (In that ice blue tho!!! OMG!)

P.S.  A note to mamas who might be weaning or thinking of weaning.

P.P.S.  Messages everywhere and — it was good to revisit my reflections on 2017 as we plow into the final quarter of 2018.

P.P.P.S.  I’m not usually big on knock-offs, but I bought this laptop cover on a lark and don’t regret it for a second.

  1. Ah! Love these options. I have an “anniversary celebration” coming up in early December — a friend got married at City Hall last year, didn’t have a reception at the time, & is throwing a party to celebrate their first anniversary — so I need a festive cocktail dress. I am considering a fringed Shoshanna dress in black, but feel like I should inject some color? I’m keeping my eyes open. LOVE those oyster earrings! xo

    1. What a fun celebration! I’ve never heard of that! So romantic. Black is trustworthy, especially if you add those loud oyster earrings and some wild shoes 🙂 xoxo

    2. I NEED some wild party shoes! I tend to wear flats waaay more than heels, so my collection of heels is very, shall we say, safe. Black, nude, and even pewter, all covered … but I need some fun options! Something like those Aquazzura powder puff heels would be excellent. 🙂

    3. YES! You know, this is pretty much my favorite wardrobe hack: invest in some funky/loud shoes once a season and your staples take on a new life. Nothing is better than a pair of fit-like-a-glove jeans, a simple white blouse, and your new tootsies. Here are a few options without the Aquazzura price tag:

These sequined beauts (under $100): http://bit.ly/2PcCy4Y

    1. Hi! I haven’t received mine yet, but I ordered a large — it says it’s 15.4 x 11.4, roughly the dimensions of my laptop! xo
